Unfortunately, alcohol is sometimes used by perpetrators to target potential victims, relying on the victim's intoxicated state to commit sexual assault with a reduced likelihood of resistance or clear memory of the events. We will review the social, biological, and forensic aspects of substance impairment and why it matters in sexual assault and victim-centered care, all while focusing on the most common drug of facilitated sexual assault, alcohol.

Learning Objectives

Law Enforcement:

Objective #1: Drink: Develop an understanding of substances of abuse in sexual assault and their  interactions with our bodies.

Objective #2: Drank: Evaluate the myopic effect of alcohol.

Objective #3: Drunk: How alcohol impacts society and the forensic case.

Nursing:

Attendees will have increased knowledge of the effects of alcohol on the brain during a drug facilitated sexual assault.
